LA Auto Show Design Challenge, a Launch Pad for the Next Hollywood Car

When thinking about Hollywood cars, we all remember the Batmobile or The Back to the Future Delorean not to mention KITT, and the list could go on. There were certain movie cars which have gained more glory and reached for heights greater than the actors ho drove them. This year's LA Auto Show Design Challenge is asking designers to pencil the next great Hollywood car.

There are teams from the US, Japan and Germany competing for the number one spot, which will be awarded during the 2011 LA Auto Show on November 17. They are expected to compete against design teams from General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz Germany(smart), Mercedes-Benz Japan (Maybach) and Mercedes-Benz US. The original concept will always attract attention on screen, keeping in mind that most movie cars despite their age are still remembered nowadays.

Thus designers will have to do more than create a hot car, they will have to pencil a vehicle that makes its way and works with the characters and audience. Other facts which will add to the judging of the vehicle will be the level of creativity and how the car will be able to reflect its brand attributes to the plot.

Worth mentioning that the contest will be judged by Imre Molnar, the dean of Detroit’s College for Creative Studies, Tom Marino, director of industrial design at San Francisco’s Academy of Art University, and Stewart Reed, chairman of transportation design at Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design. Also, a representative from Pixar Studios will be the final judge.
