Kylie Minogue Enjoys the Summer in New Golf Cabriolet

Could it be that Australian sweetheart Kylie Minogue is the ideal star to sell a compact car?! It seemed that her collaboration with Lexus for the CT200h would stick for a while, but the pop singer has jumped out of the hybrid and into the brand-new 2012 Golf Cabriolet for a bit of summer fun in the sun.

We are of course talking about an advertising campaign for Wolfsburg's new convertible model that aired in Germany this week. We have no idea what the strawberries are for, but anyone would have trouble figuring things out after seeing Kylie’s bright smile, deep eyes, beautiful skin... sorry, we got distracted again.

The basket is actually a reference to the nickname of the previous generation of the Golf Cabriolet: "Erdbeerkorbchen" (strawberry-basket in German).

“Kylie Minogue supported us in a special advertising campaign for the new Golf convertible. She fits perfectly in every respect to this vehicle: both are true style icons with millions of fans,” commented Matthias Becker, VW Germany marketing manager.

The new model is based on the sixth generation of the Golf and will be sold alongside the firm's Eos hardtop roadster. It replaces the solid roof with an electrically operated cloth top, also sporting a redesigned a redesigned rear and a more swept-back front windscreen frame.

In Europe, the Golf Cabriolet will arrive with six direct-injection turbocharged diesel and gasoline engines with a power range from 105 hp to 210 hp. These include four petrols (1.2-liter TSI 105HP, 1.4-liter TSI 122 hp, 1.4-liter TSI 160 hp and 2.0-liter TSI 210 hp), and two diesels (1.6-liter TDI 105 hp and 2.0-liter TDI 140 hp).

Prices in Germany start at €23,625, which does not include the strawberries or Kylie Minogue...
