BMW North America is currently running the “Ultimate Driving Experience” tour, taking their latest cars on a trip around the US, to show Americans that their ultimate driving machine motto is still as valid as in day one.
The tour started in Boston, last week, at the Gillette Stadium, in the presence of VIP’s from the world of NFL and NBA. Kyle Arrington from the New England Patriots and Alan Anderson of the Brooklyn Nets attended the first stop and checked out BMW’s most futuristic car built today, the i8.
The plug-in hybrid sports car is fitted with two powerplants that make sure you can have plenty of fun behind its wheel. Up front there’s a an electric motor derived from the one used on the i3, making 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque while round the back, an 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol turbocharged unit making 231 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque powers the rear axle.
That gives the car an unique all-wheel-drive setup in the current line-up. The transmission is ensured by a 6-speed automatic gearbox working in sync with a 2-stage one for the electric motor.
During the Ultimate Driving Experience tour, visitors can check out the i8 and get behind the wheel of more than 80 vehicles, specially prepared for their enjoyment.
Guests will have the chance to partake in self-guided, hands-on demos with the 335i Sedan and X5 xDrive50i SUV, go for street drives with the cars, go for an autocross experience behind the wheel of a 2 Series or 5 Series model or learn how to drive from BMW professionals. Additionally, The Ultimate Driving Experience will feature a main pavilion with interactive displays.
