The reason why some backrests are being recalled is a set of pivot screws which may come loose and cause the backrest to detach from the motorcycle it is installed on. Needless to say that this scenario can negatively affect both riders and passengers: die to the dual-purpose nature of this (anyway, awesome) backrest, it can provide back support for the riders in solo mode, as well as for the pillions, when riding two-up. As for the backrest falling off the bike, we are positive the motorists behind such a rider would not be exactly happy..

Kuryakyn is about to notify the customers and replace the said screws, at no cost. The affected backrests are in both chrome and black finish, as follows: chrome ones, part number 1160, manufactures between March 2012 and May 2013, and the black and chrome model, part number 1661, made from August 2012 to May 2013.
