Kumho Tires Celebrates 50 Years of Activity

Kumho Tires has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, holding events in the South Korean capital, Seoul and its factory is Gwang-ju.

When the company was founded in 1960, it had a daily production of 20 tires. The output has been on a constant increase and is currently at a level of 180,000 tires per day, or 65 million tires per year. These come to the world via the company’s eight plants, located in Korea, China and Vietnam.

We should look back with pride at our achievements to date and, based upon this, look positively towards the future and the successful accomplishment of the next 50 years,” Jong-Ho Kim, the company’s CEO said at the Gwang-ju celebration.

Kumho was one of the first companies to develop run-flat tires for the replacement market and the first to produce 15 series tires, 32 inches tires for SUVs and colored smoke tires for drifting. In addition to that, the company is the first to receive the Nordic Swan Eco-Label. The company has been an OE supplier for top European brands, such as Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.

The company also produces tires for race cars that take part in various series, concept car tires (example: Mazda Furai) and is one of the five companies worldwide qualified to produce and export aircraft tires.

"The company long ago recognized the benefits of premium sports marketing and, in addition to its wide-ranging motorsport commitments, is in the fourth full year of its successful platinum partnership with the world’s most famous football club – Manchester United; the fruits of which include an innovative football skills and road safety campaign for young people called ‘Play Safer’," stated the press release.
