Kubica Will Start Rehabilitation in Italy

Polish driver Robert Kubica will remain in Italy, at the Santa Corona hospital, when he'll start his rehabilitation following the accident he sustained two weekends ago. The news was confirmed by his manager Daniel Morelli, who revealed that the decision belongs entirely to his client.

Kubica is set to undergo one more operation this week, his last, aimed at stabilizing his right elbow. The surgery is expected to be performed first thing on Wednesday and is projected to last approximately 4 hours. However, even after he'll exit intensive care later this week, the Pole will continue his recuperation at the aforementioned hospital, given the great care he has enjoyed so far in Italy.

Tomorrow [Tuesday] we'll have a meeting with medical staff and we'll look at the situation: continuity is the most important factor to pursuit,” said Morelli in a recent interview with IVG.it, as reported by Autosport.

We need maximum attention, and I think we'll carry on staying here because there are no better solutions.”

The hospital certainly hasn't needed our promotion: I feel that, in light of the situation, it is the most appropriate decision for Robert, also in order to stay in constant contact with the specialists and the medical staff that has operated him, especially at a delicate time such as the beginning of the rehabilitation phase.”

Last week, prior to his second operation on Friday – a surgery that was aimed at stabilizing his humerus and leg – it was rumored that if all goes well after the Pole's last surgery, he would leave the Santa Corona hospital by the end of this week and could start his rehabilitation process in a private facility elsewhere.

Despite the latest news provided by Morelli, there is still no estimate on the amount of time Kubica will need in order to recover from his injuries. An approximate timeline is unlikely to be given by the Italian doctors after his final operation.
