Kubica Watched F1 Opener on TV

Robert Kubica may have missed the grid in Australia last weekend, but he certainly didn't miss a single detail of the season opening round, as he watched the whole thing on TV from his hospital room at Santa Corona, in Italy.

While in the middle of his recuperation period, the Polish driver took an hour and a half off to watch the Australian Grand Prix from beginning to end, and a few minutes later sent a congratulation message to his teammate Vitaly Petrov for securing the first podium in his short F1 career.

Robert followed the race like a child follows his favourite Disney cartoon,” revealed his manager Daniele Morelli in a recent interview with Italy's La Stampa newspaper. Additionally, he confirmed that the Renault driver was not alone in the room, but accompanied by long-time girlfriend Edyta.

In the end he said the car showed performance beyond expectations, even though he had realized from the Barcelona test that it could be competitive. He wanted to congratulate Petrov for a superb performance in both qualifying and the race,” added the Pole's manager.

According to the same Morelli, Kubica was also pleased and enthused with the amount of tributes and best wishes sent by several people in the paddock, as the cameras caught several “Get well soon, Robert!” messages in the Albert Park pitlane on Sunday.

He feels he has many friends,” concluded Morelli.
