Kubica: "Renault and Sauber Not the Only Options"

Now that Fernando Alonso was confirmed by Ferrari from 2010 onwards – and there's no way he'll be replaced by Kimi Raikkonen at Renault – Robert Kubica's chances of securing a deal with the Enstone based team for the upcoming season received a considerable boost.

Soon after the Ferrari announcement on Wednesday, Renault issued a statement of their own in which they confirmed they'll name a replacement for the 2-time world champion in one week time. Talking about his prospects to leave BMW Sauber at the end of the season, Kubica admitted that a definitive decision is yet to be made in the next few days.

I haven't made my choice yet. From me, in my point of view, there is not 100 per cent confirmation where I will be and we will have to wait. Until I sign the contract it is difficult to say where I will be racing. Once I sign the contract we will see,” said Kubica to the reporters at Suzuka.

In addition, he insisted that Ferrari's announcement on Wednesday does not affect him in any way, as he wasn't in any talks with the Italian team to begin with. However, if Alonso's moving to Ferrari means a spot has been cleared at Renault, things might sound more interesting. However, the Pole doesn't seem too worried about his F1 future, as he reckoned there are more than one or two possibilities to continue his career in the sport.

My options were not Ferrari so it did not depend from Fernando (Alonso) if he would go there or not, what I will do in the future,” said Kubica.

I think there are some other options apart from these two (Renault and BMW Sauber). But, as you say, there is never 100 per cent a guarantee of performance as I said before, who will be quick and who will not be quick, but it is a difficult period for all of F1, not only for this team but for all teams, most of the teams,” added the undecided Pole.
