Kubica Rehabilitation Going Well in Italy

Great news emerged today regarding Robert Kubica's medical condition, as the medical staff at the Santa Corona hospital in Italy have confirmed that the Polish driver has already begun his rehabilitation process and is in “pretty good” mental shape following the multitude of operations he sustained on his right leg, humerus, hand, wrist and elbow.

Ever since he was taken to the hospital some three weekends ago, the Renault driver sustained no less than 3 operations, two of which have lasted for more than 8 hours each. After finally being taken out of intensive care and put into a normal ward last week, Kubica has already began recuperation. As confirmed by his manager Daniel Morelli a while back, the Pole chose to remain at Santa Corona for his rehabilitation process.

He no longer needs intensive care so he has begun the rehabilitation process,” announced Dr. Igor Rossello, the hand specialist who has treated Kubica ever since he got into the hospital.

He is now in his own large room so that he is as comfortable as possible. He has already started some gentle hand exercises with the slight flexing of his fingers. He can move his fingers slightly and has a little bit of sensitivity already in his hand. What is very important is that there is no sign of infection, which is the main concern,” added Rossello.

Although Kubica recently stated that he aims to recover faster than initially predicted and make a quick return to Formula 1 this season, Rossello stopped short from making any predictions regarding the Pole's recuperation period.

It's difficult to say,” said the Italian doctor. “For the next couple of weeks, he will stay here so we can monitor his condition. During that time there is still the possibility of infection and other complications so he will have the dressings on his hand changed every few days. After two weeks we will assess his next move.”
