Kubica Now Linked with Ferrari Drive

With the news that BMW will officially quit Formula One at the end of 2009, rumors about Robert Kubica replacing injured Felipe Massa in the Ferrari F60 cockpit at Valencia already started to make the headlines. The Polish driver still has a biding contract with the Hinwil-based team, but might be allowed to race for the Maranello team on a one-off deal, considering BMW's (no) plans for the future.

Kubica, the man World Champion Lewis Hamilton measured himself against as they rose together through the ranks, could even be in place to drive for Ferrari at the next race, the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23,” showed a commentary issued by the British Daily Mail earlier today.

The Pole, who was actually courted by Ferrari in the past, is only one of 13 drivers currently linked with replacing Massa at the European Grand Prix. Apart from the Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso options – strongly denied by the German's manager and Ferrari respectively in recent days – testers Marc Gene and Luca Badoer are also on the list.

Want to hear some more names? How about the recently-sacked Sebastien Bourdais, who is currently managed by Nicolas Todt, the very man who represents Massa in Formula One. Or Nelsinho Piquet, whose recent comments towards his money-making manager Flavio Briatore will most certainly result in a loss of his Renault seat in the next few days?

1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve also made the list recently, despite the lack of any history between him and the Scuderia. Nico Hulkenberg is also an option, as he is currently managed by Willi Weber, none other than Michael Schumacher's manager himself. Italian tester for Force India Vitantonio Liuzzi is also on the list, as suggested by the GMM news agency.

Talking about the choice Ferrari will be forced to make for the Valencia race, company's CEO Luca di Montzemolo insisted there is no hurry in naming a replacement for Massa, but that the selection will be made responsibly in the upcoming week.
