Riders will go the extra mile to increase the performance of their bikes, and it’s not uncommon that some of them even renounce the warranty the manufacturer is offering for their new machines while chasing some more horsepower. KTM knows this only too well, and made a very interesting decision for the Indian market: upon request, the dealers will install factory-approved custom software to alter the performance of Duke machinery.
So far, KTM is said to offer only two new mappings for the Dukes. The first one is a performance-oriented engine mapping, offering increased power and torque and adding to the bikes’ nerve, as it seems like this is one of the most common modifications Indian KTM customers are looking forward to.

The increased performance will lower the overall mpg figures, of course, but it’s hard to believe that people risking their warranty and very engines will be deterred by the slightly increased fuel consumption. The second mapping will be an economy-focused one, aimed at improving the mileage, while obviously reducing the overall power deployment and making the Dukes a tad more mellow, but offering more miles for the buck.

Authorized dealers will install any of those factory-approved mappings on request for a fee of a yet unknown value. By doing so, the warranty of the bikes will not be affected and in case defects occur, they will be treated ad usually. However, if riders want to revert to the factory mappings, they will have to reach a KTM workshop to make the change.

It’s really nice to see that the multi-mapping solution is slowly expanding in the smaller-displacement segment as well, even though the small prices of these bikes will most likely prevent “one-touch” engine management modifications like we have in modern big-bore sport or touring machines.
