KTM Recalls Off-Road Bike for Potential Fuel Leak

As the riding season is drawing to an end for most riders, those who own certain KTM off-road models will maybe find the new recall less annoying. And if they still plan to ride their machines as the fall turns into winter, having them checked and fixed is always a good idea.

Routine testing at KTM revealed that the supplier of the aluminium fuel pump nut may have manufactured it incorrectly. The mentioned part does not provide enough sealing and fuel might leak uncontrollably. This defect might affect the KTM250, 350, 450 SX-F/XC-F/EXC-F and EXC Six Days models, all belonging to the 2016 version of the bikes.

Model year 2015 250, 350, 450 SX-F MY2016 and 250 and 450 SX-F Factory Edition bikes may have been assembled with molded fuel hoses that can cause problems including fuel leakage at bends or at the ends.

Tank breather problems for certain Freeride models, as well

The riders operating some of the Freeride models might experience fuel escaping from the tank in certain conditions KTM describes as "extreme," though without making any further comments. Model year 2012-2016 Freeride 350 and MY 2014-2016 Freeride 250 R may confront with such problems, but KTM says that only a limited number of cases were reported, with no dire consequences mentioned. No reports on property damage, crashes or injuries have been filed to the date of the press release, official Mattighofen sources say.

KTM will inform in writing all the owners of the bikes potentially affected by any of these three defects. If you are not sure whether your off-road KTM is affected by the recall, you can either use the VIN of your motorcycle on the KTM website or contact your dealer.

All dealers have been instructed to verify the bikes and replace the defective parts with compliant ones. All the repairs will be carried out at no cost for the owners, KTM informs.
