KTM 390 Duke Crashes, Hopefully Teaching the Rider a Valuable Lesson

It's not the first, and it's not going to be the last time when I remember a phrase that seems to only grow truer by the year. "Motorcycling is all about learning how to ride through the turns, this is the main thing," someone told me in my rookie days.

Watching the guy in this video biting the dust only makes those words stronger. He totally needs to learn how to ride around a bend on that 390 Duke. The bike is A2-compliant so it has 47 horsies to fool around with, and, like any other motorcycle in the world, it will buck anyone off if ridden improperly.

It looks like the rider simply misjudges his trajectory through the turn. At 0:16 and 0:19, he approaches the turn's apex almost as if he'd be riding in a much straighter bend, and steers/leans only in the last moment.

Aggressive riding does not necessarily need speed and drifting

Now, this way of approaching turns IS a way to ride aggressively. Even if the bike is not speeding or drifting, this doesn't mean it is not being ridden aggressively. In fact, pretty much any forceful maneuver aboard a bike can be regarded as aggressive riding.

Sudden changes of direction can cause a bike to lose grip, especially on the front end, which tends to be "lighter" when the throttle is open. Add poor body weight balance to this and the odds of a crash, or at least an intense moment are skyrocketing. And when the rider is also a beginner, things look eve worse.

Now, thanks to the low speed, full leathers and riding gear, and the fact that the crash occurred in an outside corner helped quite a lot. Honestly, things could have ended much worse, as we, unfortunately, saw more than once in fairly similar scenarios. Hopefully, the chap understood that he still to make some amends to his riding style.
