Almost two weeks ago we reported on the best year BMW Motorrad ever had, with 115,215 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold throughout 2013. A nice, feat, but not as nice as KTM's 123,859 figures, topping the Bavarian manufacturer by around 12%.
KTM's 2013 sales figures are 15.6% bigger than the ones from 2012, and a 17-percent increase in revenues is also expected.

BMW occupies a firmly-footed presence in the US and in the the big-bore adventure-touring bikes, but the offer is rather limited to the premium segment bikes, with no small-displacement ones in the line-up.

The Austrian manufacturer opted for a completely different business model based on "not offering any customer a reason to refuse buying a KTM," as KTM CEO Stefan Pierer likes to say.

This means a huge offer of affordable, small-displacement bikes in all the sectors, from the sport RC390 to the naked 390 Duke all-rounder, 125cc and 200cc bikes, high performance off-road and competition machinery, as well as premium motorcycles for both track and adventure use.

Even more, KTM has dedicated a lot of efforts to brings high-tech safety features such as the Bosch MSC system and advanced ABS, spearheading the expansion of the motorcycle market.

At the same time, KTM's global approach to less traditional markets provided a huge customer pool, and rendered the Austrian manufacturer able to sell more.
