It looks like KTM is once more hiding things from us, and this time it’s an all-new member of the Adventure family, the 2015 1050 Adventure. The info was picked by other websites and we checked the facts to finally learn that Matighoffen really has the 2015 KTM 1050 Adventure listed in the support section of their website, in the user manual and catalogs department.
Apparently a 9.7MB PDF file can be downloaded… if you have a VIN or AUK code, which we don’t. Anyway, if the spareparts catalog is online, this means that somewhere there is a bike in which these spares will be replaced, even though the winds blowing from Austria are dead-silent in this matter. Some sources say that KTM CEO Stefan Pierer made a brief mention about a 1050 model during the Indian launch of the new sport bikes, the RC200 and RC390.

The 2015 KTM 1050 Adventure is expected to be revealed at EICMA in early November powered by a liquid-cooled engine derived from the 990 Adventure v-twin, a model which has been discontinued. With the mill of the 990 producing 105 horsepower and 100 Nm of torque (73.7 lb-ft), the 1050 might add up to 10 horsies or so to the game. It is yet uncertain whether KTM will re-bore the LC8 engine or will use a longer stroke, and this depends on what character Matighoffen has in mind.

It would be awesome if KTM will be able to maintain the weight of the 1050 Adventure around that of the 990 version, as it pretty much borderline to “fat cow” territory already, and inly the low center of gravity, good enduro capabilities and exceedingly nimble engine which save the day.

At the same time, the 1050 Adventure will slot under the current models as far as price is concerned, and if KTM can also refrain from loading all the electronic systems it can muster on it, we might get to see a decent off-roader after all. Still, I cannot help thinking about a more street-oriented Adventure model, with cast wheels and all, a bike for the less dirt-happy crazy guys out there, but yet retaining a massive dose of orange DNA… This is a segment KTM hasn't tapped into yet, and with the new Kawasaky Versys 1000, Suzuki V-Strom 1000 and the rest of the more "tamed adventurers" out there, there's nice money to be earned.
