Krug “Rhino” Expedition Vehicle Showcases a Studio Apartment. Utilities Included

Got some roads marked on your map that haven’t been explored yet? It’s time, my child. The Krug Rhino will surely take you there, let you live off the land a bit, and then bring you back home.

So you and the missus have some cash put away and would like to just go off the beaten track. For years, you’ve owned a motorhome, but it has finally reached the end of its capabilities. You just can't seem to get everywhere you’d like to. Some of the roads on your map can only be accessed by crossing rivers, streams, mountains, and sand dunes. So what do you do?

My recommendation is you find a group of guys named Krug Expedition. If you haven't heard of Krug, they’re an expedition vehicle manufacturer out of Austria, and their newest addition to works include the Rhino. This 7.5-ton vehicle has everything you could possibly need for you to explore your map the way you’d like.

The base for this immense off roader is a 13.290 Man TGM 4x4 chassis. This chassis is used to build firetrucks that lug around tons of water and mining support, so you know for sure it’s going to handle whatever you can think of, within reason that is.

To tackle the terrains ahead, a permanent all-wheel-drive system with front and rear differential locks comes standard. Off-road ABS logic and a rear suspension on airbags are sure to offer a smooth ride. To make sure you really can take the off-road journey, we’ll find a 79-gallon (300 l) fuel tank. But this isn't all you can strap on it. A second 79-gallon (300 l) tank can be added, along with an LED roof rack, air sprung seats, reverse camera, and a media center, just to name a few.

Being a home away from home, you want it to be a safe place, and it is. The living module is built from reinforced laminate and includes 4 insulated windows with blinds and insect screens. The space as described by Krug would be light and airy. Looking at the photos, I really feel that description to be accurate. The space doesn’t feel crowded at all.

I personally compare this space to a studio apartment in terms of size, and as far as appliances and cabinet work, I give it a ten out of ten. Wonderful minimalist lines and furniture give it the airy feel we mentioned earlier. At the very rear of the space we find a double bed that spans the entire width of the...home. Yeah. Home seems like a good word for this. What else can we call it?

This off-road home includes a kitchen equipped with a dual induction top, a 23.7-gallon (90 l) fridge with a 2.5-gallon (9.8 l) freezer and stainless-steel sink. The countertop is HPL and includes a foldable extension, in case you and the missus want to do a bit of cooking together.

Restroom facilities include a composting or cassette toilet and two shower facilities, one inside the vehicle and another outside. All your hot water needs are provided by a 2.6-gallon (10 l) Truma Combi 6kW diesel system. The water filtering system runs on a 79-gallon (300 l) tank and can eliminate particles up to five microns small.

But what are you gonna do when you need to run this stuff off-grid? Don't worry, Krug’s been doing this for a while. Just to start you off, a 24 V 300Ah lithium-ion battery bank is available to you. On top you’ll find solar panels processing 1000WP. A Victrom Multiplus 5000VA inverter/charger and a 50A DC-DC converter. At the ends of this electrical system you’ll find four 230V outlets and three USB ports.

But if you don’t like the way this set-up is offered, you can always opt for the extra options. Some of which I recommend, such as the roof mounted AC unit from Vitrifrigo Stratos or the Seagull water filter.

How far are you looking to travel this late summer?
