Probably one of the most anticipated debuts that will take place at Geneva won’t happen at the Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche or Mercedes-Benz stand. Oh no, it will most likely be happening at the Koenigsegg stand where the Swedish company is expected to unveil their new hypercar. But what will it be?
Well, we know that it’s going to be named Regera (that means ‘reign’ in Swedish by the way) but that’s about it when it comes to official information. Oh, and another interesting thing: it’s also going to be a MegaWatt car.
That means it will have an output similar to the one of the One:1 (interesting tongue twister, right?), at 1,000 kW, that’s roughly a bit over 1,300 HP. It all seemed pretty boring up until a couple of hours ago, because the One:1 was already incredible. However, an Instagram video posted by Koenigsegg basically confirmed that the car will not be relying only on fuel fossil.
If the other megawatt car uses a 5-liter biturbo V8 to get its horses, this one will seemingly be a plug-in hybrid. That’s right, in the video posted on Instagram, someone plugs in a car that wears the Regera nameplate…
As far as the overall concept and specs go, be my guest to make your assumptions. Rumors so far seem to suggest that a 700 HP electric motor will be used, leaving the rest of the power (almost 700 HP more) to come from an internal combustion unit. But what will Koenigsegg go for?
The thing is, when working with hypercars, weight is just as important as power. That means, the batteries and the electric motor will add some hefty kilos to the mix and the conventional engine should be smaller in size to counterbalance all of that. After all, the One:1 gets its name from the perfect 1 HP per Kilo ratio and that’s also what gives it its incredible specs.
If the Regera will be the same, we’re in for a hell of a good time. That’s because it might very well trample all over our current offering of hybrid hypercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1, becoming the fastest accelerating car in the world. Geneva is getting more and more interesting by the day!
PS: in another video posted on Youtube, Christian von Koenigsegg, the CEO of the company said the he doesn’t like ‘conventional hybrids’ leaving us even further back in the dust, trying to figure out what the Regera will actually have under the bonnet…
