Knight Rider Unlimited – First Season Green Lighted

Hide your kids, lock up your wives and guard your valuables, NBC is ready to take over the world and is starting with your own home, namely the TV set in your living room. That's right, you have heard correctly, that abomination that is the remake of the classic Knight Rider series has just been OK-ed by execs over at NBC.

The show has been much talked about, not just for the main role, a man who had to step in the shoes of the mighty David Hasselhoff, that 80s ladies man with more hair on his chest than a whole pack of baboons, but also for the car, which just as a symbol for the show as the Hoff was.

Of course, they went with the Mustang GT but they stuck with the very catchy name KITT which stands for Knight Industries Three Thousand. As the press release reads: “Absolutely the coolest car ever created, KITT is equipped with AI (artificial intelligence) that is capable of hacking almost any system. Its weapon's systems match that of a jet fighter, its body is capable of actually transforming into other vehicle and it uses sophisticated holographic imagery to elude villains”.

The actor playing the lead role is called Justin Bruening, known for his work in “Cold Case”. Also starring is Deanna Russo (“NCIS”), Paul Campbell (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Yancey Arias (“Kingpin”).

The pilot was received rather badly by audiences which makes us wonder why the hell the network decided to go for a whole season. And as if that wasn't bad enough, they called the “first season”, which means that we'll probably get another soon after that. Joy!

The show will air every Wednesday at 8 pm. The press release said something about the ratings, but we're not sure how to interpret that data. Regardless, here it is: it seems that the series has an average rating of 2.4, with a 7 share in adults 18-49 and 7.4 million viewers so far this season. That means that 7.4 million people actually stopped what they were doing at the time and tuned in to watch the show or fractions thereof. Scary stuff by any standard.

Fans of the true series are invited to purchase the VHS version or watch early morning re-runs on satellite television. Never thought we'd say this, but we miss the Hoff!
