Kind Internet Stranger Fixes Android Auto on Samsung Galaxy S20

The Samsung Galaxy S20 was officially launched in the spring of this year, and since it’s one of the best Android phones right now, quite a lot of people actually upgraded to this new model.

But as far as Android Auto users are concerned, this upgrade isn’t necessarily the best thing to do, as Google’s app doesn’t seem to work with the Samsung Galaxy S20.

And if it does, it keeps disconnecting at random times for no clear reason, something that Google itself is currently looking into after so many user reports.

While Google keeps trying to figure out why Android Auto doesn’t work with the Galaxy S20, someone called Carlo Sogono who turned to the official forums to complain about the same problem claims a solution might actually exist.

And it all comes down to three different steps.

First of all, the Android Auto user says, you should change the power mode to “Optimized” on the Samsung Galaxy S20. While this is an optional step, it could help deal with the issue and get Android Auto running on Samsung’s latest high-end phone.

Then, you need to add Android Auto as well as the apps that you use behind the wheel to the list of “Apps that won’t be put to sleep.” This is the essential part of the fix, as it’s believed the disconnecting happens because of the optimization system the Galaxy S20 ships with.

Third, there’s the awkward recommendation of disabling the “Automatically resume media” option in Android Auto settings.

Step 3 is an odd one. When I just did Steps 1 and 2, I stopped getting the random errors, but found that AA is very sluggish. I use Youtube Music so it resumes music immediately when I plug in my phone. When I disabled auto resume I stopped getting the sluggish behaviour even after I manually play music from within AA,” the Android Auto user explains.

Whether or not this works for everybody still remains to be seen, but given Google is yet to come up with a fix, the whole thing is probably worth a try.
