Finnish driver, Kimi Raikkonen, managed to cross the line first, in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - his first F1 victory since his return to the sport. He was followed by Fernando Alonso, while Sebastian Vettel came in third, in a race where no fewer than seven drivers were forced to retire, among which we need to mention Romain Grosjean, Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton started from pole, and was the first into the first corner, with Raikkonen, Maldonado and Webber close behind. Sebastian Vettel started the race from the pit lane, after stewards disqualified him after the qualifying session, for having too little fuel in his car to comply with the regulations. He was then forced to push really hard, throughout the race, damaging his front wing twice in the process. He was forced to pit again for a new nose, which brought him down to 21st place - he was back up to 14th in no time, though.
Meanwhile, at the head of the pack, Lewis Hamilton was pulling away from the pack, yet an engine issue forced him to pull over by the side of the track, allowing Kimi to take the lead, and keep it until the end of the race - Alonso also gained a position, taking advantage of a mistake made by Pastor Maldonado, and until the end of the race, the Spaniard began closing in to Raikkonen’s Lotus, and by the end, the Finn was just eight-tenths ahead.
Following this race, Sebastian Vettel still leads the drivers’ standings, with 255 points, followed by Alonso with 245 and Raikkonen with 198. Also, with 50 points still available in the last two GPs of the season (the US and Brazil), it could be anybody’s game.
