Currently racing for Alfa Romeo Sauber, the Iceman is the most experienced driver in Formula 1 in terms of starts. The 2007 champion is known for his reserved conduct and reluctance to all things PR, and Kimi also happens to like go-faster family cars ever since he became a dad.
Previously the owner of an Audi RS6 Avant with 22-inch Vossen wheels, Raikkonen is now dailying an Alfa Romeo Stelvio with a bit of a surprise under the hood. Instead of the Ferrari-developed V6 of the Quadrifoglio, the Finn has opted for a 2.0-liter engine that belts out 280 PS (276 horsepower).
“After this intense season, it’s nice to get back to a regular life with my family,” said Kimi. “I still don’t want to give up the pleasure of driving, though, and choosing the Stelvio Veloce means that I can do so in absolute safety, even in the snow of Finland.” Although it’s hard to tell what make and model we’re dealing with, the compact SUV is fitted with winter tires.
The Veloce – which is the adjective for fast in Italian – comes standard with very cool 20-inch alloy wheels. The circular motif created by the five spokes can be considered traditional for Alfa Romeo, and this particular design is shared with the Lamborghini Diablo that was produced from 1990 to 2001.
Specified in Rosso Alfa and configured personally by Kimi, the Veloce also boasts Q4 all-wheel drive with active torque distribution. This system monitors the driving and weather conditions at all times, and if necessary, 50 percent of the torque can be sent to the front axle in 150 milliseconds.
As far as the interior is concerned, the compact SUV with Giorgio underpinnings from the Giulia sedan is treated to adjustable sports seats wrapped in leather, aluminum for the shift paddles, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen media system joined by a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.
Last but certainly not least, Kimi’s new ride features Level 2 semi-autonomous driving technologies. These include Highway Assist System, Traffic Jam Assist System, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Active Blind-spot Assist, and Driver Attention Alert.
