Kim Dotcom, founder of now suspended Megaupload file sharing website, has regained access to the assets the FBI has confiscated back in 2012. Among others such as artwork pieces, jewellery and bank accounts storing $218 million, this also includes no less than 18 cars.
The 2012 story took place at Kim’s mansion in New Zealand and now the judges were required to extend the seizure, but the demand was rejected earlier today. There’s still a chance for an appeal, but if things go as Kin plans, he’ll be getting his assets back in a few weeks’ time.

For the last two years, Kim has been taking care of his business, as well as covering the legal expense without all his assets, so he’s pretty fond of himself.

“Our assets were seized for 800 days and still I was able to fight back even with my hands tied behind my back. Imagine what I can do now!!!” Kim said on his Twitter account.

The man still has quite some legal challenges to face though. Kim is fighting to stay in New Zealand, as US extradition would be a terrible fate - Megaupload and his founders are currently involved in multiple lawsuits, with accusations including copyright infringements, fraud and money laundering.

Nonetheless, Kim is confident - “The NZ asset ruling is HUGE. We’ve just filed a case in Hong Kong against unlawful seizure of #Megaupload. The U.S. case is falling apart!”

As for what the... ahem... Internet afficionado has been doing meanwhile, Kim is keen on his Internet Party. The online political movement seeks Internet freedom.

After receiving the good news, Kim used his twitter account to promise a track day event with the members of the party.

“I will rent the Taupo race track for a track day with #InternetParty members when my cars are returned!” Kim said on twitter. Whi knows, maybe next year the Gumball 3000, an event where Kim has many friends, will go to New Zealand...
