Royal Enfield announces the new Despatch Edition of their Classic 500 bike, a model that will be manufactured in a very small run and which is reported to be sold only online, in flash sale. If you plan to get your hands on such exquisite and authentically retro machines, then mark down the date of 15th July and ready your funds.
The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Despatch Edition bikes will only be sold online through the official RE store, with the sales opening on the mentioned day. However, customers who feel like taking one of these WWII-inspired jewels home should act fast, as Royal Enfield is said to have manufactured only 200 bikes in each color.

Speaking of colors, the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Despatch Edition will be available in three trims, including Desert Storm Despatch and Squadron Blue Despatch, both in a camouflage guise, and the Battle Green Despatch.

Green goes abroad only, as the color is forbidden for civilian use in India

The green version of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Despatch Edition will only be sold abroad, because Indian laws forbid that civilians use vehicles painted in army green. Royal Enfield fans will certainly love this, as it really doesn't get more military than army green for a bike.

All limited edition motorcycles have a distinctive badge on the side panel, indicating the production number. The engine and the exhausts are painted in matte black, a thing we'd have loved to see on the wheels and hubs, too.

On the tech side, the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Despatch Edition will sport the same 499cc air-cooled single producing just over 27 hp @5.250 rpm and a peak torque of 41.3 Nm (30.4 lb-ft) at 4,000 revs. Transmission is also unchanged, the 5-speed manual unit actuated by a wet multi-plate clutch.

We spotted some Despatch models allegedly available online for around 175,000 Indian rupees, and this translates to around $2,730 or €2,430, though we guess that Western buyers will have to pay more.
