When Kia first showed off the Track’ster concept, some people were expecting it to be some sort of preview for a sporty version of the Soul. Well it didn’t happen for the current incarnation of the car, but according to auexpress.co.uk, they will be making two special versions of the all-new Soul - a sporty version and a convertible one, with the first one aimed at the European market, while the latter will try to further build on the Soul’s US success.
The all-new car will be officially unveiled in January, at the Detroit Motor Show - Kia’s US plans are very clear, as they could have chosen any other similar venue, but we say they specifically chose Detroit to show just how important the US market is to them. Also, it seems that the new Soul will also be available as a three-door (it needs to be, at least in its convertible guise), giving it even more sporty credentials and a stiffer body shell - we are looking forward to seeing it!
However, despite the funky, square-ish and upright looks, the new car will be underpinned by the same basic chassis as the Rio and Venga. Also, we say the engine which will power the sporty Soul will most likely be the 200 hp 1.6-liter unit, currently found under the bonnet of the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
