We never though the day when a Chinese car brand would sue an automaker from another country over trademark-related business would come, but it seems that this is exactly the case with Qoros, which has filled a lawsuit against Kia.
The Chinese brand, which has recently announced its European market entry for next year, has sued Kia, aiming to prevent it from using the Quoris name that was planned for the European version of the K9.
A District Court in Hamburg, Germany, has recently granted a preliminary injunction to keep the South Korean carmaker from using the designation for its vehicle, as the authorities believe that customers could be confused if both names were used.
“We are pleased with the decision of the court as we succeeded in our first step towards protecting our brand name. We look forward to the first public debut of our vehicles at both the Geneva and the Shanghai auto show in 2013,” Qoros vice chairman Volker Steinwascher said.
So far, Kia hasn’t offered an official statement on the matter.
