The TUV Nord assessed all the vehicle’s environmental aspects, from production to daily running through recycling, certifying that the crossover complies with the strict environmental standards of the ISO 12040 life cycle assessment.
The new Sportage comes to life in Kia’s European factory in Zilina, Slovakia. The factory received an ISO 12001 life cycle assessment certificate in 2007 and is labeled as a “green” facility. Kia says that many of the production and waste-management technologies used at the Zilina site are among the most advanced in the world.
But let’s see how these eco principles translate into facts. One important environmentally relevant improvement offered to the Sportage is an important weight reduction. Even though the new car is 9 cm longer than its predecessor (measuring 4.44m), it weighs between 87 and 160 kg less, depending on the specification.
