Kia Sponsors the Australian Open

For the tenth consecutive year, South Korean manufacturer Kia is tying its name to one of the most important tennis tournaments of the year, the Australian Open. The cherry on the cake is the sports superstar Rafael Nadal, who will be attending the event as both a player and the official global brand ambassador.

As the automotive sponsor of the event, Kia will be supplying a fleet of vehicles which will be used transport players, officials and VIPs around the Melbourne Park. So far, over the ten years since it got involved with the event, Kia has supplied the Australian open with no less than 909 vehicles (this year alone, the car maker will be taking to the event 101 cars).

“The sight of the Kia fleet ferrying players, media and officials around Melbourne is synonymous with the Australian Open and contributes to the tangible excitement and buzz that the event brings to the city of Melbourne,” Steve Wood, Tennis Australia CEO, said in a statement.

The fleet of Kia vehicles on the scene will be driven by 20 specially trained volunteer drivers. For the approximately two weeks of service at the Australian Open, the 101 Kias are expected to clock a staggering 300,000 km. The drivers expect to take several thousand trips with the Open's guests for the duration.

“As a proud sponsor of the Open, we are providing an opportunity for athletes, volunteers and guests to experience the excitement of the tournament with relative ease,” Kia Motors Australia CEO and president M.K. Kim added.
