Kia’s first mass production effort in the electric car market, the Soul EV, is expected to arrive in the North American, European and Chinese markets in 2014.
According to Kia World, the global Kia Soul EV should be released in the first half of 2014 with a single charge range of about 200 kilometers (124 miles) and a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). The all-electric powertrain is also said to take the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 12 seconds.
The Soul EV will be company’s second electric vehicle and will replace the Ray EV, which is only available in their native South Korean market. The Soul EV will reportedly have a price tag of about $35,000 (€27,000).
The Kia Ray all-electric Mini MPV was released in 2012 as a vehicle destined for the South Korean government fleets. Powered by a 67 HP electric motor and having a range of 138 km (86 miles) thanks to a 16.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Ray EV was limited to only 2,500 units.
