Kia fans from across Europe should take notice of this year's Geneva Motor Show, as this is where the next generation of Korean powertrains is revealed.
The biggest arrival in Geneva is the new Soul EV, currently still on display at the Chicago Auto Show. This all-new model is Kia's first mass-market purely electric car. Based on the existing Soul model launched last year, it replaces the internal combustion engine with a a 81.4kW (110 hp) electric motor producing 210 lb-ft (284 Nm) of torque. The top speed is limited to 145 km/h (90 mph), while range in the real world is somewhere around 130 to 160 kilometers.
Also making its way to the European show is our favorite sportscar concept from the Detroit Auto Show in January. That's right, Kia is bringing the GT4 Stinger Concept, the orange pocket rocket that's been heralded into the world as a rival to the Subaru BRZ. It's a very small car designed in California and powered by a 315 PS 2-liter turbocharged direct injection four-cylinder engine.
The 2014 Kia Optima Hybrid is also being brought to Geneva as a European debut. It's been cosmetically updated with new headlights and taillights, fresh bumpers and a few other cosmetic touches. The Optima never really caught on in Europe's competitive sedan market and it will be interesting t see if the time is right for a budget hybrid to do battle with the numerous diesels out there.
Developed in response to customer feedback and developments in the increasingly-competitive European marketplace, the 2014 Sportage is Kia's final arrival this year in Geneva. The best selling Compact Utility Vehicle looks virtually unchanged but comes with a myriad of touches that make it a better car, including LED rear lamps, Kia’s FlexSteer system, heated steering wheel and a new 4.2-inch TFT LCD supervision cluster.
