Last month, Kia registered a double digit year on year sales increases in all regions: 62.9 percent in general markets (Central and South America, the Carribbean, Asis -excluding China- the Pacific, Middle East and Africa), with 38,926 units, 54.6 percent in China (28,082 vehicles sold), 32.8 percent in Korea, with 38,513 vehicles, 24.1 percent in Europe (33,891 units sold - of which 5,228 were sold in the UK) and 17.4 percent in North America, where the carmaker sold 35,093 units sold.
Kia’s global year to date sales in the course of the present year registered a 43.8 percent growth, managing to reach 645,515 units. The best results were registered on the Chinese market, where Kia sold 118,213 vehicles (up 116.7 percent).
“Kia’s sales performance around the world so far in 2010 has been buoyed by strong customer demand for our smaller segment vehicles like our C-segment models and B-segment passenger cars, such as Rio, as well as our competitive recreational vehicles like the all-new Sorento,” said Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation.
“With completely redesigned and reengineered models like the next generation Sportage and Magentis D-segment sedan due to go on sale later this year, we expect to see even more positive changes in consumer perceptions toward the Kia brand in the months ahead,” the executive added.
Kia’s top selling model in overseas markets (April) was the C-segment Cerato (sold as Forte in certain markets), with a total of 34,987 units sold.
