Kia has finally launched the Rio 3-door in the UK market, and the South Koran automaker probably has high expectations, since almost a quarter the cars in this segment are three-door numbers, and it’s not like the little Rio is skimping on class.
The engine range is the same as the five-door but if you only use your car for the daily commute, chopping two doors off will save you £600, with prices now starting at £9,995 OTR.
Standard equipment includes integrated daytime running lights, MP3-compatible RDS radio and CD player with USB and AUX port, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).
If you want a cooler, sportier-looking Rio, go for the ‘3’ trim level that ads 17-inch wheels, LED running lights and rear clusters, cruise control and heated front seats.
The petrol engine range includes the revised 1.24-liter Kppa with 83bhp and 121 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque that returns a combined fuel economy of 56.5mpg UK. There’s also the more powerful new 1.4-liter Gamma producing 107bhp and 137Nm (101 lb-ft), which does 51.4 mpg on average.
Now on to the diesels, which include the 1.1-liter CRDi with 74bhp that’s supposed to do 78.5mpg combined and the 1.4-liter CRDi with 89 hp that returns an averaging 70.6mpg on the UK cycle.
