Kia Recalling Cee'd and Picanto Models in the UK

Kia’s UK division announced that it will recall 468 Cee'd models and 6,585 Picanto vehicles, with the campaign debuting immediately. The company has identified that up to 468 Cee'd’d vehicles could suffer from insufficient force from the brake master cylinder on car that are equipped with Electronic Stability Program system.

The problem affects 3-door, 5-door and SW vehicles built between April 1 2008 and March 30, 2009.

In case of the Picanto, the harsh cold season (2009-2010) has revealed that the material used for the fuel filter neck seal could be damaged by de-icing materials, with the problem potentially leading to a fuel leak.

The issue affects 6,585 Picantos built between November 2009 and February 2010. The company claimed that it is aware of a small number of leak cases.

Kia said it is currently contacting the owners of the affected vehicles, with its dealers replacing the brake master cylinder (for the Cee'd’d) and the fuel-filter neck (for the Picanto) free of charge.

“Safety is always our top priority and our on-going product assessment and research has revealed these two potential problems,” said Hamish McCowan, Director of After-Sales and Logistics.

“We have immediately put in place a process to contact owners and the work will be conducted by Kia dealers at a convenient time for customers. I would apologise to any owner whose vehicle may be affected and at the same time I would like to assure them that we believe we are acting before anyone in the UK has experienced any issue,”
the executive added.
