To be honest, there's nothing family-inspiring about the Proceed Concept other than the shooting brake profile, but you have to look beyond the show car extravaganza and try to anticipate what Kia has in plan for the production version.
Anyone who's ever used a camera knows that capturing red surfaces is the most difficult thing to do, and the Kia booth in Frankfurt made more use of the color than certain districts in Amsterdam. It's almost as if they had designed it to double as a darkroom.
In reality, it was all designed to make the Proceed Concept seem even more dramatic than it really is. Peter Schreyer's work at the South Korean manufacturer is making itself felt with Kia looking more and more menacing for the Japanese and European carmakers.
The Cee'd, in particular, has been a very successful model, and with a new generation set to debut next year, the Proceed Concept certainly brings good news not only for the three-door version, but for the entire family as well. It confirms the more aggressive styling used for the Stinger sedan will make its way further down the range further supporting the brand's attempt to gain a more premium attire.
As for the three-door Pro Cee'd, it seems like the upcoming model will transform from a hatchback into a shooting brake. Its Hyundai counterpart, the i30 Fastback looks like it hasn't yet decided whether it wants to be a sedan or a hatchback, but the new Proceed should have a more clearly defined shape.
The interior of the Proceed Concept, on the other hand, is pure fantasy, and not necessarily of the best kind. The red theme is carried over from the exterior with just as much aplomb, while the four single seats are covered in fluffy fabric that makes you sweat just by looking at it. Nothing you see there holds any value to the production version, so no point in wasting your time.
At this point, everyone is excited about the possibility of a hotter Proceed version, one that would use the 2.0-liter T-GDI engine the Hyundai I30 N gets. That would give Kia a unique model on the market that a lot of people might find appealing. We'll hopefully see next year.
