You guys wouldn't believe the hype Kia UK is making around its latest car! Let us give you an example: "The most eagerly anticipated new model in Kia’s history, the high-performance three-door pro_cee’d GT, is to go on sale in the UK."
While we don't completely share in their enthusiasm, we do understand where they are coming from. After all, the 3-door version cee'd finally has the engine it needed all those years ago.

Equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-lliter with direct injection, the pro_cee'd GT offers customers decent performance. 0 to 60 mph comes in 7.4 seconds and the top speed is 143 mph. That sounds quite a bit more impressive than 0 to 100 km/h (62 mpg), the real benchmark, in 7.7 seconds.

Still, the numbers for the engine itself are respectable, with 204 PS (201bhp) and 265 Nm of torque being channeled through a six-speed manual. The reason why it's not faster is that all the power comes in at 6,000rpm. But, we don't need to see this as a real hot hatch, only a mildly hot hatch.

The semi-hot Kia's closest competitor would have to be the Vauxhall Astra GTC, which costs £22,000 when equipped with a 1.6 Turbo engine.

Speaking of prices and competition, the pro_cee'd GT will go on sale across Britain on July 1st with prices starting at £19,995. The five-door version of the car will arrive in 2014. Some people will buy the Clio RS for the money, but the Kia does have very good standard features.
