With the exception of a few interesting new engines, Kia’s revival has been built on the success of their designs. From the cute and non-retro Picanto city car to the upcoming K9 luxury saloon, we’re struggling to think of a bad looking Kia built right now.
One man has been credited with changing the boring Kia designs of old, German-born designer Peter Schreyer. Now, he’s been promoted to the position of company president, the first non-Korean person in this company’s history.
Schreyer, who works out of Frankfurt, will keep his job as chief designer. The move reflect Kia’s premium ambitions and shows the company is now focused on research and development rather than making cheaper cars.
Both Kia and Hyundai are currently presided by their chairman, Chung Mong Koo. His son, Chung Eui Sun, ‘stole’ Schreyer from VW Group, where he was an Audi designer, back in 2006.
