Kia KV7 Concept to Inspire Next Sedona

Kia has really changed its image from a relatively unknown automaker offering cheap cars to one that has premium ambitions. We would have almost forgotten they used to make ugly van-type machines like the Sedona, but they did and it’s making a comeback.

Fortunately, the ‘ugly’ is gone, as the concept that preceded the next generation Sedona is a handsome people mover. At the 2011 edition of the North American Auto Show in Detroit, the Koreans introduced this, the KV7 concept car, which is the precursor to the new van.

The new van will bow some time before the end of next year. Don’t expect suicide rear doors, but a Soul-like chunky profile and imposing front end will definitely make their appearance.

The 2011 concept was powered by a new Theta II 2.0 liter GDI turbocharged engine, which is borrowed from the U.S. version of the Optima. The unit delivers 285 hp and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
