Kia Global Sales Boomed in March

Kia Motors has had a very successful month in March, as the company registered a 41 percent year on year global vehicle sales increase, managing to sell a total of 177, 351 units.

This includes passenger cars (export sales, domestic sales & sales from overseas plants), recreational (RVs) and commercial vehicles.

The Korean carmaker registered the highest March sales increase in China (98 percent - 28,792 units), followed by general markets, with 55.7 percent (35,114 vehicles), Europe, with 33,4 percent (40,471 vehicles), Korea, with 26.5 percent (38,015 units) and North America, where it posted a 23.6 percent growth (34,959 vehicles).

Kia’s Q1 sales reports show a 46.9 global year on year increase, as the automaker sold 471,000 units. The largest boom was registered on the Chinese market, where a total of 90,131 vehicles were sold in the first three months of 2010. The figure can be translated into a 147.8 percent increase.

The vehicle category reports (overseas sales), show that Kia’s recreational vehicles and passenger cars posted a 43.9 percent and 47.3 percent surge, respectively.

Last month, the company’s best selling model in overseas markets was the C-segment Cerato (Forte, for some markets), which convinced 32,283 customers. This is followed by the Sportage compact SUV and the B-segment Rio that achieved sales of 17,029 and 16,970 units, respectively. The fourth place was taken by the European C-Segment Cee’d, with 13,916 units sold. The top five is completed by the Sorento mid-size CUV that posted a sales figure of 13,481 units.

"Our momentum generated in 2009 by ending the year as the world's fastest growing automaker is clearly being maintained in 2010 as we continue to see notable double-digit sales increases. What is equally encouraging is the regional balance of sales so far this year, particularly, with Europe, China and North America posting similar cumulative sales results of around 90,000 units each," said Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation.
