There are many ways to look at the Kia CUB Concept, most of them good, but the most amusing one is from the front the front and… oh my God, is that a mustache? Yes it is, it's the finest, largest mustache we've seen on a car. Like a Kia don!
We'll try to reframe from laughter, as this might be an important car for Kia. The CUB Concept made its debut at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show and is being heralded as a compact four-door coupe.
Unfortunately, there's no information of the size of the car, so we can't tell if it's a B- or a C-segment car. However, we think it's actually the Kia Rio facelift in disguise. The Rio was launched in 2011, and should get a refresh next year.
The Rio is one of the most interesting-looking superminis/subcompacts, and we immediately recognized its thick rear pillars. But unlike the Rio, the CUB Concept has suicide doors and no door pillars.
We don't see that going into production, specially since foo door sills look a little high for a coupe. But Kia has long promised us a performance version of the Rio. And guess what, the CUB has the new 1.6 turbo GDI with 204 HP (150 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque.
“The new Kia CUB is a compact, four-door coupe created with a clear focus on driving performance and practicality,” comments Thomas Oh, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Kia Motors Corporation. “Styled to appeal to trend-setting urban dwellers, the CUB features a comfortable four-seater cabin which generates an emotional, feel-good response and delivers everyday, real-world benefits.”
Editor's note: See, cars really do have faces!
