The engine that’s making Waze the must-have app it is today is entirely based on the crowdsourcing system requiring users to send reports on the things they come across behind the wheel.
Every report is rewarded with a number of points, and this way, users are provided with a good incentive to contribute to making Waze better. The final goal is to get a higher score, which in turn means Wazers get access to new icons that aren’t otherwise available to standard users.
These features are part of a so-called gamification package and include candy for rewards, a scoreboard, and the weekly reports that tell users how many people they’ve helped with their reports.
However, all of them went missing back in December for no clear reason.
However, a Waze map editor explained on the official forums it was all because of a gamification update that the Google-owned company was working on for its app.
“Waze is rebuilding the gamification features and as a result have turned off some of the existing features like candy, scoreboard and the weekly report. Stay tuned, the new contribution feed is pretty impressive and worth the wait,” their post revealed a few weeks ago.
Indeed, all the gamification features are now back in Waze, so everybody should start receiving reports and be able to access the scoreboard.
At first glance, there’s no major change as compared to the previous versions, so maybe Waze just focused on under-the-hood polishing before the new features roll out for everybody out there.
For the time being, the good news is the Waze features have returned for all users, so you can once again check the scoreboard to see how big your contribution to the crowdsourcing engine really is. The feature should be back on both iPhone and Android, and of course, the reports you send on Android Auto and CarPlay also contribute to your overall score in Waze.
