The “Internet connection isn’t strong enough” Android Auto saga is far from over, despite a fix that was released by Google earlier this month.
It’s all because another update that the company has recently shipped to Android devices brought back the same bug, causing the error to once again show up when users try to send new messages or reply to a text.
More specifically, the problem was originally reported in January this year after the first users discovered that whenever they attempted to respond to a message using voice commands they were provided with an error claiming “the Internet connection isn’t strong enough at the moment.”
Needless to say, the Internet connection was working just fine, as everything else could be used normally, including navigation and music streaming.
Google acknowledged the bug and promised a fix in February, while a month later, a member of the Android Auto team officially announced that a new version of the Google app would bring it to everyone. The patch landed in late April as part of Google app version 11.0, but the expected behavior was restored in early May after another update.
Several users confirmed the fix resolved the problem and responding to messages once again worked correctly. And yet, a new update that was shipped this week broke down the whole thing, once again making it impossible to send a text using a voice command because of the “Internet connection isn’t strong enough” error.
Users on Google’s forums confirm that the whole thing is again happening after installing the latest updates, and now the search giant itself says it’s investigating the problem one more time.
“Thank you for your feedback. The Assistant team is aware of the issue and is currently working on it. We appreciate your patience and we will keep you updated with the fix status,” a member of the Android Auto team says.
At this point, however, there’s no ETA as to when a new fix could land.
