Kevin Schwantz vs Circuit of the Americas Goes to Court

Things are not at all well between Kevin Schwantz and the Circuit of the Americas, and even though the second half of 2013 was rather quiet regarding this affair, the conflict developed. February 10, 2014 sees Kevin Schwantz and CotA in the courtroom.

Schwantz is suing CotA and its former President Steve Sexton of maliciously interfering in the contract between Schwantz's 3FourTexas company and Dorna and cutting him off the revenues due for bringing the MotoGP to the US circuit.

CotA is counter-suing and claims thate Schwantz misrepresented his rights to both the circuit management and Dorna. While CotA seeks attorney fees and litigation costs, Kevin Schwantz wants his cut of the MotoGP deal, and we bet it's more than beer money.

Asphalt & Rubber reports that the trial will last for 10 days and will be held in front of a jury of peers in Austin, Texas. Probably one of the key elements in the trial will be the validity and performance of the contract between 3FourTexas, Dorna and CotA.

Funny to see Dorna still staying away from all this, so far. So this kind of means it's just a Schwantz – CotA issue at play. While there are no guarantees that the February trial will have things cleared out, we might expect some rough times around the Austin MotoGP round on April 13, too.
