It looks like the rough times between the former racing legend Kevin Schwantz and the management of the Circuit of the Americas are about to get even rougher, as the Texan racer responds to the claims in COTA's statements and starts piling up proofs.
Schwantz shows the first documents to support his initial statements, and you can check these in PDF form, after the jump. "On February 2, 2011, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta sent me a letter confirming that 3FourTexasMGP, my company, is the ‘sole rights holder for MotoGP in the state of Texas for the years 2013-2022." Schwantz says.
Even more, Kevin Schwantz extends his views on the way COTA does business on the F1: "I have spent too much time and money the past five years on this project, including helping the Controller during the 2011 Legislative session and CotA in raising money, for me to sit by and allow this repeated misinformation to continue.
CotA’s attempt to downplay my involvement with Austin’s MotoGP event is silly, but some of the group’s other actions may verge on something far more serious. It is my belief that just like the F1 event, they are attempting to rewrite history in an effort to qualify for one of the Texas Event Trust Funds.”
While the battle is fought in the court of law, Kevin is getting more and more public support from racing enthusiasts and his fans. They are already grouping and taking action: a website dedicated to Schwantz' cause has already been put online and offers merchandise, while people are encouraged to boycott the COTA MotoGP race, by watching it from a local friendly pub.
These guys have already partnered with sponsors like Leo Vince, PJ's Parts and Motovation, who have donated door prizes. All proceedings will however be donated to the Marco Simoncelli Foundation, just like the ones obtained from the merchandise and apparel sold online.
