After his return to endurance racing last year, it’s time for riding legend Kevin Schwantz to announce his participation in the 2014 Suzuka 8-Hour race, in the Endurance World Championship. Schwantz will be part of Team Yoshimura Legends, and thus play an important role in celebrating the 60th anniversary fo the exhausts and aftermarket manufacturer.
The manufacturer will field a two-team line-up at Suzuka: Yoshimura Legends and Yoshimura Shell Advance Suzuki. Schwantz will have former Japanese Champion Satoshi Tsujimoto as team mate. They will be riding the number 12 machine, while the other GSX-R1000 with Kevin’s old number 34 will have the former Australian Champion Josh Waters and All Japan Superbike star Takuya Tsuda aboard.

Last year, Schwantz rode for Team Kagayama, with team owner Yukio Kagayama and MotoGP, BSB and WSBK rider Noriyuki Haga as team mates. They finished the 2013 Suzuka 8-Hour in the third position.
Kevin Schwantz remembers that Fujio “Pops” Yoshimura has been one of the big motivators in his early career, and getting to ride one of his bikes at the 60th anniversary of the company he founded is an even greater honor.

“Competing in the 2013 Suzuka 8-Hour with Team Kagayama reminded me of what racing with a great team is all about. I am really looking forward to celebrating Yoshimura's 60th anniversary of being in business by competing in the 2014 Suzuka 8-Hour on a ‘Pops Yoshimura’ Suzuki.

Pops was a very influential man in my career; I first met him mid-way through the 1985 season riding for Yoshimura. Riding for Pops taught me a lot and helped groom me to be the competitor that I am. He was a real motivator and got the best out of everyone that worked around him,” Schwantz adds.

You may be a bit late for this bike, but here’s a glimpse of what the Suzuki Black GSX-R750 Yoshimura Edition looks like. Still, with Suzuki’s financing offers including Yoshi gear for a ton of bikes, it’s maybe a good time to get a new two-wheeler…
