Following a post-race inspection on April 25 and an opening-day inspection on April 22, NASCAR found several irregularities which led on Wednesday to three teams being penalized for violating several NASCAR rules. In all, three crew chiefs, one team owner and one driver were either fined or penalized.
The winner of the Nationwide race at Talladega, Brad Keselowski, was sent back 50 points, while owner of the No. 22 team, Jodi Geschickter, got the same penalty.
Paul Wolfe, crew chief for the same No. 22 team was fined $10,000 for using race equipment not conform to NASCAR rules and unapproved left front spring, as well as an additional $10,000 for using an unapproved right front shock absorber.
Bob Schacht, crew chief of the No. 75 driven by Bobby Gerhart was fined $7,500 for several 2010 Nationwide Series rule book violations. Newt Moore, crew chief of the No. 05 driven by Willie Allen, was fined $2,500 after being found using non-magnetic steel rear jacking bolts.
For Keselowski, the penalty now means he is only 10 points in front of Kevin Harvick. He is still series leader, after winning Talladega.
Keselowski barely managed to enter the race, after he damaged his car during the Sprint race earlier in the day. The damaged crush panels to his car meant he was poring carbon monoxide onto the track, three times the levels allowed by NASCAR.
