Kenevo Comp Boasts Massive e-MTB Stats for Nearly Half the Price of Others

It seems everybody wants an e-MTB these days. But with the way they're priced at nearly $10,000 (€8,240) and up, for some they seem only a dream. Not for Specialized.

I want you to imagine something for a moment. It's Sunday and you’ve got a phone call from your friends who have invited you to smash some trails today. But, everybody seems to be equipped with top-of-the-line mountain bikes. Not only that, but they're electric.

Given how you never really had enough money to buy a $10,000 (€8,240) electric mountain bike, you say no. It's then that one of your buddies reveals you no longer need so much cash to afford an e-MTB. He then tells you to click here to check it out for yourself. Before you go on, just have a look in the gallery and then come back to the text.

So, what did you think? Well, would be surprised to find out that this aggressive and capable e-MTB you’ve just witnessed comes in with a price tag of only $5,600 (€4,615). That's right people, 5,600 bucks for an awesome electric mountain bike.

To start things off, let's have a look at the frame. Why the frame? Well, because it's the base for everything else. In the case of the new Kenevo Comp, the frame is constructed using Specialized M5 premium aluminum. Simply put, just aluminum.

However, don't worry that it is just aluminum as the team at Specialized knows exactly what they're doing and even included an integrated down tube battery and internal cable routing into a frame that allows for 180 millimeters of travel.

Talking about travel, the front fork is a 2021 Marzocchi Bomber Z1 with 180 mm (7.1 in) of travel to take care of any sort of bumps, ledges, trails, and even ramps and drop offs. This fork and the frame as well, are both tuned for 27.5-inch tires. For a rear suspension Specialized is using a Fox Performance Level DPX 2 with a three-position lever.

Being an e-bike, however, we need to take a close look at the motor and battery system. Running through the spec sheet for the Comp, I was surprised to find out that it uses the same motor as the Turbo Levo series. The custom Specialized 2.1 motor runs under 565W and amplifies your abilities to four times their natural level. Not enough for you? How about 90 Nm (66.3 lb-ft) of torque? Oh, and did I mention you get this for under $6,000? I believe I did.

As for the battery system, Specialized brings their in-house M2-500 integrated battery with rock guard. That 500 stands for the level of Wh this battery offers. How far it will take you is a bit difficult to say as road conditions vary greatly from one right to the next. Personally, however, I think we'll get at least 60 miles (96 km) of riding.

The rest of the drivetrain is tuned to an SRAM 11-speed setup. The rear derailleur, shift lever, and even brakes are SRAM. Oh, and those brakes are four-piston hydraulic with 200 mm (7.9 in) rotors, so don't worry about stopping in time.

Personally, I'm glad I've run across this bike because now we know there are others out there that can give you one hell of a ride for nearly half the price of other e-MTBs. Below, you’ll also find a video depicting some of the Kenevo family abilities.
