The information mentioned above is no news to the diehard rally fans out there. Nor is the fact that competing in the WRC has been Block's dream ever since he was a little boy. However, what may come as a news for our readers is the fact that the famous X-Games driver plans a longer stint in the WRC, than the expected one-year initially predicted.
“Competing in the WRC has been a dream since I was a little kid. In my mind, world rally drivers are the greatest in the world. I'm very happy to be here and it's such a huge honour to be on the stages with people like Petter, Sebastien Loeb and now Kimi Raikkonen,” said Block in an interview with WRC.
“Getting into the WRC you can't be expected to be instantly competitive - it takes years to get up to speed. My plan goes right through 2012, so I'm looking to get time in the car this year, so in 2011 and 2012 I can be more competitive,” added the American racer.
Furthermore, Block confirmed that his plans for the 2011 season of the WRC is to field more than one car for Monster World Rally Team, with at least one additional entry set for long-time friend and former Subaru driver Chris Atkinson.
“We really tried to work out some deals to get him in the team this year. I really like Chris, he's a really good guy and an amazing driver, but unfortunately the deals didn't come together how we wanted. We're looking to have him come out possibly for an event or two this year - we're not really sure when or where - and then looking to have him in the team for 2011,” added Block.
