They say that some of the nicest custom bikes come from those salvaged from a bitter life of decay and forgetfulness, sometimes rescued from the very bank of the landfill. It's the case of the Big Z, the first bike from Spanish Shop Maccomotors.
The Big Z originates from an 1982 Kawasaki Z1100 ST, with a shaft final transmission. While Maccomotors did not go for a brutal, radical bike-hacking operation, the end result maintains some of the initial bike's DNA, and some refined upgrades which have restored it to its former glory.
For starters, the engine was rebuilt, because the Big Z had to ride, not to rest in a museum of some sort. And since performance was also one of the main goals, the old Kawa received Meiwa and K&N filters. The exhaust pipes were donated by a Zephyr 1100, and now end in two MIVV flared aftermarket silencers with a ton of retro look about them.
The subframe was replaced by a custom one and a Maccomotors seat. The Big Z has been loaded with a Bates headlight, Texas tail light and Shin-Yo Mini CatEye blinkers. The low Renthal Ultra handlebars with Beston grips now house a miniature single gauge for a tidy retro look.
This first Maccomotors bike is nice enough to make us say there's real potential with these Spaniards, and we'll be looking into their work more often soon. Seen on Vintage Racers.
