It’s a big week for Karma Automotive, as the California-based carmaker is presenting not one, but two new exciting vehicles at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. The first is the performance version of the Revero, the GTS, and the second a full-electric concept with heart-stopping power.
Called SC2, the concept packs enough punch to push mountains out of the way. Making it tick are twin electric motors mounted front and rear, which combined generate 1,100 horsepower and an alleged torque of 14,000 Nm at the wheel.
With all these numbers behind it, the concept is said to be capable of passing through the 62 mph barrier nearly as fast as you can say its name, in just 1.9 seconds.
The SC2 is the platform chosen by the company to showcase its latest advancements when it comes to high-tech as well. Or should we say, gaming technology.
The car is fitted with a so-called Drive and Play system which brings simulated driving experiences inside the car. How does that work?
Karma did not explain the tech very well, but as far as we can tell it works a bit like this. Using a triple high definition camera and LIDAR sensors, the vehicle records every second of every drive taken. Then, when the car is parked, a laser projector replays each trip so that drivers can feel like they're playing a driving simulation game.
Now, there seems to be no actual control over what the car is doing, as every move is just a recording, but one can tap into a drive someone else uploaded and experience in the U.S. what some other guy went through in China, for instance.
Complete with turns, braking, acceleration, light simulations, sounds, air temperature and audio playlist.
As for the look of the SC2, the rather enchanting lines are described as a sign of things to come from Karma, the company’s future design direction.
All the details on the new Karma concept can be found in the press release section below.
