Back in April 2019, American carmaker Karma headed for the Shanghai Auto Show in China to reveal a number of interesting projects. Among them, the SC1 Vision concept, the company’s first fully electric vehicle.
Next week the car will be shown for the first time in North America, as part of Karma’s display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Just like in China, the car will be on-site to impress with looks and high tech gadgetry only, as the electric powertrain that supposedly powers it was not detailed.

Designed to be a preview of future Karma cars, the SC1 shows a streamlined fluorescent orange body with scissor doors that open to reveal a simple interior, dominated by two large screens.

The two-seater has been designed to be autonomous, and it is packed with hardware to give it senses: eight radars, six Lidar sensors, and six external cameras.

Handling the wealth of data recorded by these sensors is an artificial intelligence system that can also understand human speech. Biometric scans of the car’s occupants can also be performed to allow authentication.

Also, the car uses a new infotainment system that works with the new 5G connectivity.

“The SC1 is a signpost to Karma’s future,” said in a statement Karma CEO Dr. Lance Zhou.

“Designed and engineered in less than 12 months, SC1 is a full battery electric vehicle that explores the brand’s striking design language and the innovative technology integration possible through our collaborative Open Platform strategy.”

For the moment, Karma did not announce plans to actually manufacture a version of the SC1. The carmaker is currently busy making and selling its hybrid cars, especially the new Revero GT.

The SC1 is not the only car Karma is bringing to Pebble Beach. The GT by Pininfarina will also be there, as will be the Revero GT.
