Kandi Coco, the Cheapest Car in the World: $865

When Tata Nano heard about the availability, on US soil, of a car which is cheaper than its, its headlamps fell off, and so did its self-esteem (if it had any). The rival to the cheapest car in the world title is called Kandi Coco (?), it debuted at the 2009 NADA Show, it went on sale in March has a price of only...$865.

Now, before you get your hopes up and rush to buy your own Chinese-made copy of the smart (because, yes, it is Chinese), you should know the low price may give you additional headaches. Like, for one, you would need to live (or move) to Oklahoma to buy one for that amount.

The Coco cost (no pun intended), in fact, $10,599, as autoblog.com reported. On paper, because, thanks to a $4,435 federal government deduction and a $5,299 Oklahoma rebate, the cost is brought down to $865. Some would say it is still worth it...

But wait, there's more. The Coco is a low-speed vehicle, with the top speed rated at 25 mph. Moreover, it's an electric vehicle with a top range of 50 to 60 miles per charge...

Surprised, are you? Well, don't be. It looks better than the Nano, it's cleaner, and definitely cheaper (again, only if you are an Oklahoma resident) that the Indian contender. Sure, it is slow; then again, it's faster than a bicycle and at times cheaper than one...

Eat you combustion engine out, Nano! Nobody said you have to dream of being sold globally, or that the government shouldn't help you, to be named the cheapest car in the world!
